Testimonials

These are testimonials shared via email and it is helping us to promote and research Justice for Muslim women and generally for equality, diversity and inclusion of all genders, religions and minorities. There are male victims too but they are often abused in relation to their immigration status and finances. They are referred to the legal professionals and local Mosques that are better placed not just with resources and funds but have specially trained counseling service to deal with male victims.

The founder at Justice for Sisters in Islam was very knowledgeable and understanding during our initial consultation in regard to domestic abuse and Muslim family law settlement of my divorce. I was so impressed with the little details I had been provided and all my fears were removed of approaching a solicitor due to my religion, I did not want hostility with my ex-husband’s family especially after the domestic abuse I suffered. As a qualified mediator, she is aware of how to balance matters without exerting pressure. It was extremely helpful knowing about the Islamic mediation processes and also to follow the Resolution code and bear in mind English mediation as an option to resolve matters. I am so happy we should get government funding for such organisations so they can fully provide support to people like us in the Muslim community. It goes without praising such a founder who is using her funds to run the organisation and assist so many victims like us. I pray God gives her the reward and she is well deserving of high praise. I would give her 10 out of 10!

The founder was friendly but yet professional and explained everything to me in clear understandable language. As a result, I felt that I could ask any question, without being judged. The founder has many years experience working as a family law solicitor and now as an academic and a qualified mediator. She is a member of Resolution and regularly writing academic and for practitioners to understand the needs of Muslim victims of abuse and provide context of Muslim family law. She has been professionally working in the field of family law and therefore, she asks very specific and family law focused questions and to put a victims’ mind at ease. I was eventually referred to Resolution code of conduct and approach an accredited Resolution member for other family law matters.

I appreciate all the details of what is expected and would like to give a special thanks to the Justice for Sisters in Islam, they are providing exceptional assistance for free to the Muslim community and now launching the AI which will assist women like me who cannot leave their homes due to violence. The founder was very calm, patient, understanding, professional and empathetic which I really appreciated.

The founder at Justice for sisters in Islam spoke to me for 20 minutes and answered all my concerns about Islamic divorce and domestic abuse and referred me to Resolution accredited members. I was very afraid to consult a solicitor but the founder made it easy as she is also a qualified and very experienced family law practitioner and has worked with many victims of domestic abuse. Very helpful and excellent lawyer deserving of high praise especially helping victims for free. I think if I had paid a solicitor, I would not have received half the hardwork put in by the founder.

I was assisted by Justice for Sisters in Islam on a really unusual matter, they have been incredibly helpful, made it as simple as possible, and are able to communicate in Arabic and other languages that I understood and was very quick in getting the matter closed. I would, and have, strongly recommend them, especially the founder who has considerable family law experience and has empathy towards victims like me suffering domestic violence. I was led to consult the Resolution website and referred to an accredited Resolution family law practitioner to bring my matter to an end.

Having little knowledge of Muslim family law and Islamic divorce and how I can be supported, Justice for sisters in Islam, I found them to be most helpful. Their knowledge, professionalism and compassion shone through. By the end of the online services and call, I had a sound knowledge of the processes of both Muslim family law processes at Shari’a Councils and domestic abuse protection orders at Family courts.

Justice for Sisters in Islam took time to understand my case in great detail and was able to offer me relevant up to date advise. They were sympathetic and reassuring in nature and I felt comfortable speaking to them about my circumstances

I am humbled by the help offered, so thank you!

I was not aware that Justice for Sisters in Islam are not receiving any donations and are going out of their way to help anyone who is in desperate need of help and even give small financial help up to £50 as a charity. I was abused for 3 months, and beaten to the extent that I was too afraid to leave my marriage. I finally was relieved to find online assistance from Justice for Sisters in Islam and especially as they provide help out of office hours when all family lawyers go home or switch off. I was reluctant to deal with criminal solicitors. I was eventually referred to Resolution member and explained the code and ethics they follow and felt I would not be forced to make decisions. Thank you very much!

MY LIFE IS MUCH SAFER - THANK YOU FOREVER!

I suffered abuse for almost 15 years and chained in Nikkah while my husband remained with his first wife. I was an immigrant and told if I wanted protection then I should enter a Nikkah. I did and I was soon being abused and left pregnant. I did not even have my Nikkah marriage certificate and could not apply for Khula. I ended up going to see several Imams and they all asked for my marriage certificate. I was then referred to Justice for Sisters in Islam and realised that I need to secure and protect my immigration status first and seek protective orders from a family court. I was also a victim of economic abuse as all my dowry was kept and money taken by my in-laws. I was assisted to find safe refuge and protection. I was also referred to a list of Resolution family lawyers. I was able to seek appropriate help to obtain a court order from the family court and then apply to secure my immigration status. I am indebted to Justice for Sisters in Islam to obtain a copy of my Islamic marriage certificate through Islamic arbitration and I did not participate in any sessions other than providing my consent to obtain the document. I am now freed from the Islamic marriage. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Thank You

I was not able to get legal aid and the private solicitor had quoted very expensive fees and I was deterred from seeking legal help. I then was referred to Justice for Sisters in Islam, they were extremely helpful in referring me to various help organisations including the police and resolution member. Justice for sisters in Islam went out of their way to assist and protect me from further coercive abuse taking place. I am indebted to their dedication and helping me out of office hours. I felt extremely safe knowing they were a female Muslim organisation to assist people like me. I was so scared to go to solicitors but when explained about Resolution I felt I could trust a Resolution member especially as the founder sits on the Resolution Domestic Abuse Committee along with Children and Cohabitation Committees. I was also referred for help to find suitable accommodation to meet me needs as a Muslim victim. When I left my abusive home, I was provided with food and I hope Justice for Sisters in Islam are able to secure donations for all the good work they are doing for the Muslim community. Thank you so much!!!!! I was a victim of coercion for 10 years and never contemplated leaving my marriage. I was given assistance to understand Islamic divorce process and seeking guidance from a Resolution member/lawyer. I would never have had the courage to leave my abusive marriage if I had not been explained that Islam does not expect women to tolerate abuse. I thank them and for referring and explaining what a Resolution member will do and in particular, the code they follow. I was assisted for free and I hope the government supports such organisations to protect women like me. So, a big thank to Justice for Sisters in Islam.'.

I want to express my gratitude to Justice for Sisters in Islam

‘I was coerced into withdrawing my Islamic divorce and when I consulted Justice for sisters in Islam, they not only directed me toward appropriate help in relation to my Islamic divorce but Resolution members and offered bespoke assistance. I was able to understand what the difference is when seeking help from Resolution members. Thank You

“I was going through a difficult divorce and a non-Muslim. I approached Justice for Sisters in Islam to guide me as I was under considerable mental health pressures. I am a teacher and my husband instructed solicitors who were supposedly following Resolution Code. I learnt from Justice for Sisters in Islam what the Code comprised of and I was shocked that they had not approached any conciliatory session, they had used inflammatory language and had behaved in a way to exceed costs in the region of £3-3,500 for a simple divorce! Then they went ahead just before the no-fault divorce came into force to issue a petition on unreasonable allegations that were totally untrue. The court in the end dismissed their costs except the divorce petition fee. Justice for Sisters in Islam guided me on the Resolution Code throughout. The Code was extremely helpful and I was able to navigate my case in a professional manner and avoided entering into an acrimonious correspondence. I was acting in person and finally I am divorced!

Thank you for helping me as I could not afford legal fees!

‘’Thank you to Justice for Sisters in Islam for guiding me to seek legal representation at court on a pro bono basis as I was not aware of this service. They helped me locate pro bono solicitors via Resolution members. I was able to obtain protection for ending abuse I endured for years in my marriage. I am also very grateful for support provided to find accommodation and other help especially through sharing my story on the survivors forum on Justice for Sisters in Islam website. I am glad to learn that I am not alone. As a woman you are ostracized in the Muslim community. ‘

Thank you so much.

I was involved in a domestic abuse incident, having never approached any domestic abuse services, medical help for mental health issues and the family justice system. Justice for Sisters in Islam assisted through the whole process to the relevant experts in a professional manner and made me at ease through the whole event. I would recommend Justice for Sisters in Islam to anyone who is in need of help as a victim of abuse. It was extremely difficult for me with no recourse to public funds and no legal aid.”

Many, many thanks and God Bless you.

“Justice for Sisters in Islam was passionate and focused from the beginning and committed to help me and guided me despite not having any funds to pay for a solicitor and guided me to obtain pro-bono representation at court (court protection) and referred to Resolution members in my area and to contact the main Shariah Councils, in particular with a female member on the panel. Justice for sisters in Islam efforts, that no doubt went above and beyond, certainly were key to obtaining a more favourable outcome. Thank you so much! “

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

“Justice for Sisters in Islam assisted me during my most difficult time as a victim of abuse and being pregnant. I was on a spouse visa and I was not allowed to take benefits or legal aid. This meant I could not pay for a private solicitor or obtain legal aid. I had been a victim and I was thrown on the streets but Justice for Sisters in Islam worked above and beyond their duties. They assisted to arrange accommodation with a charity and assisted to obtain representation from a pro-bono solicitor using Resolution members as they have good practice and had provided me with assistance so I would not go hungry or my unborn child. I think the government should take bigger steps to help but if it was not for Justice for Sisters in Islam, I might have lost my baby and removed instead of being helped. Thank you Justice for Sisters in Islam for all your hard work and support.”

Would not have Survived without your help

“Many thanks, Justice for Sisters in Islam, for all your assistance and reassurance during what was an anxiety inducing period – Would not have survived without your help. I had 2 children and my husband entered a polygamous religious ceremony. The police never took any action and said it was not a case of bigamy. I was very disappointed with the justice system as it does not protect women in our situation. I consulted Justice for Sisters in Islam who guided and assisted me to obtain pro-bono representation at court and then seek advice on private children’s matter. I did not qualify for legal aid and I could not afford to pay a private solicitor. If I was not assisted and obtained pro-bono representation at court, I may have lost custody of my children. I was a victim and I could not think clearly and I am so grateful to Justice for Sisters in Islam for guiding and assisting me.”

A Big Thanks!

“Thank you for standing by, for going above and beyond. Justice for Sisters in Islam were an absolute life saviour for me! I was not aware that my mahr could be claimed through the English justice system and/or Sharia Councils. I decided to approach both and I was also given numbers of family mediators and Resolution to seek assistance to negotiate and recover my mahr. If it had not been for Justice for Sisters in Islam, I would not have recovered my mahr and today, I would be homeless and on the streets. The benefits system does not help people on temporary visas because public funds is not allowed. Justice for sisters in Islam assisted by going out of their way to ensure I would not go hungry or sleep on the streets. It is very difficult because Justice should be equal for all human beings but Justice for Sisters in Islam said they will soon be in a position to provide support when they collect donations. But they still helped me to survive and get by with just basic meals and found a refuge. I was able to recover 5,000 mahr and try to sort my status and then work.”

I will use Justice for Sisters in Islam if I suffer domestic violence!

“Thank you, for your help once again and for getting me the the help I needed including medical help! I suffered severe abuse resulting in need of surgery and I did not know about pro bono help I could obtain. They were concerned about my safety and well being. I also did not know about the homeless domestic violence concession. I was able to obtain help and there should be more support given to organisations like Justice for Sisters in Islam to help people like us. I am disappointed that so many people turned me away. I will never use anyone but you and recommend you to every one I know. “

You Went an Extra Mile for Me!

“I suffered terrible domestic violence and I continued to suffer in silence. One day I decided to contact Justice for Sisters in Islam and they guided me that in Islam there is zero tolerance of Islam and in fact, Islam promotes greater justice for females and especially if the Sunnah is followed, Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him never ever inflicted violence even on animals let alone a human being. This made me think about my situation and I was afraid to get out but I was guided so professionally to seek legal help and even in Islam it is wrong to continue to suffer. I was guided that the whole purpose of divorce is to separate when it becomes intolerable. This right was granted in the Prophet’s time. I took a brave step and assisted to leave an extremely abusive marriage. I was assisted by a Shariah Council to be freed from a marriage that an English court could not grant me. I then obtained pro-bono representation at court and obtained an injunction and was guided to move somewhere so I would be protected. Justice for Sisters in Islam went an extra mile and I really pray that one day someone recognise the help they give to people like me.”

Thank you is a small word for what you did for me.

“Thank you so much for directing to qualified mediators with Resolution membership and also to Shariah Council as my husband moved to France after a serious domestic violence incident and left me in hospital. I had no money, no where to live and no hope of being released from an Islamic marriage. In the end, I guided and given so much h support and I was able to contact a Shariah Council and obtain faskh which only a qualified Muslim scholar can grant and not an English family law judge. I went to see mediators who were very helpful but not able to contact my husband in France. I was told in a unregistered marriage I still have legal rights but this could take time. I abandoned the finances and was happy to be released from an abusive marriage after 4 years. Thank you Justice for Sisters in Islam as they contacted a female Muslim scholar who gave me guidance to act in accordance with the sharia so I feel at peace now and all thanks to Justice for Sisters in Islam.” Thank you!

Thank you for helping me in my difficult time.

“I want to thank Justice for Sisters in Islam for guiding me to seek legal representation at court on a pro bono basis as I was not aware of this service. They helped me locate pro bono solicitors and informed me that they are just as good as fee paying as they owe the same standard of duty to clients. I was able to seek protection for ending abuse I endured for years in my marriage. I was also given details of Resolution to find a representative who deal with pro bono cases and follow Resolution guidelines. I am also so grateful for every step of the support to find accommodation, support and other help especially through sharing my story on the survivors forum on Justice for Sisters in Islam website. I am glad to learn that I am not alone. It is a big taboo in the Muslim community. “
